This one happened by chance. I was down at StudioEvil in St. Paul, MN to record some drums for some other tunes and Ty Brookman (studio owner/engineer) had this acoustic recording that his friend (Jon Eardley) had written and laid down a while ago. Ty asked me if I would be so kind to toss some drums on the unnamed unfinished tune. Sounded fun, well performed and well recorded. So I accepted the task.
Months later, I recalled the track and wondered what ever came of it. "Nada", Ty tells me. I convinced him to send the song over to me so I could write some stuff around it and perhaps see it through to completion. We did all this without Jon's knowing because we wanted to surprise him. I think maybe he figured it was forgotten... buried under other projects and priorities. One fine day in mid November '16, I returned to StudioEvil with my keyboard and bass guitar; on a mission to wrap things.
I think it came together nicely. An interesting collaboration that didn't really involve feedback in the writing process. In the end we both agreed that it could be released under Junt & Ghost. Something about the guitar part just made me think of the stars. It had a wondrous feel about it, so that's where I went with it. I wondered what it would be like to raise a child and see their curiosity and intelligence take them into space one day. Maybe to colonize another planet? Resulting in mixed feelings of overwhelming pride, joy and sadness.

(lyrics)
Quite small, yet, feeling tall while in awe of it all
Alive and casting your gaze upward
Past the starry maze
I see you're curious of what's beyond the clouded vale of what has come and gone. With many questions you're harboring, it's hard to foresee what tomorrow with bring. Myriad secrets can't stay untold, so try and work at them 'til they unfold. In constant motion to the outer reaches of your place. An undying wish to venture out of your space.
Hard to let you go even though I know a calling has found you as I watched you grow. Stepping out the door will have some risk. Know there's no broken heart your laughter can't fix.
Though your sunshine is my moonlight
Know the starlight is ours tonight
Yeah your sunshine is my moonlight
Should you ever have uncertainty, just pay attention now, listen to me.
The one thing we all have, at least we should, is humility and feeling that you did what you could. 'Cuz any day or week or month or year any one of us could be out of here. Never mind all that. Just stay focused on your dreams, they're not as hopeless as they seem.
Though your sunshine is my moonlight
Know the starlight is ours tonight
And the distance that we will share
Will not atrophy our love beyond repair
Go now, try to find your way up there so far
Make me proud of the pioneer you are
All those times that I had to leave, wish we could rewind so you wouldn't miss me. As I turn to gray, you can hold this to be true; there's never a moment that I don't miss you.
Feeling tall while in awe of it all
Alive and casting your gaze upward
Though your sunshine is my moonlight
Know the starlight is ours tonight
And this distance that we both share
Cannot atrophy our love beyond repair
Go now, try to find your way out in the void
Make me proud of the pioneer you are
I can't keep you forever by my side
So I relinquish you back to the stars
